Playing Badminton

Badminton is a great sport! It can be played at all ages and is always a great work-out. Badminton combines agility, endurance, speed, flexibility, power, quick decision making, fast motor reflexes, and above all- a positive fighting attitude. This sport has been around for many years, and although it is not the most well known sport in the U.S., it is one of the most popular sports in the world.

Ask any badminton player why they play the game, and they will tell you that it is fun as well as challenging. In 2005, the World Championships came to California- the first time this prestigious event was hosted in the U.S. Our men's doubles team even went home with a gold medal!! But this sport is appreciated at many levels, from back yard barbeques to our athletes competing for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

The best time for anyone to pick up this sport is as a child. Juniors can learn proper technique, footwork, and  basic coordination to help them compete later in life. There are tournaments in the U.S. for players under 9 and players over 99! Tournaments are held in every region of the country throughout the year, as well as internationally. This site is dedicated to those junior players now, and those in the future. What is needed for badminton to grow is to increase the amount of juniors playing (and enjoying) the sport. After all, they are our future.
